Why I Never “Cross the Wires” Between Clients
When you hire a Virtual Assistant or Digital Business Manager, you’re trusting them with some of the most important parts of your business—your systems, your clients, and sometimes even your trade secrets. That trust is something I take very seriously.
One question I sometimes get is: “What happens if you also work with someone in my industry? Does that mean you’ll share ideas, client information, or business practices between us?”
The short answer? Absolutely not.
My Commitment to Client Confidentiality
Even though I may serve multiple clients in the same or similar industries, there is no crossover of information. Every client relationship is private and handled with strict confidentiality. I don’t discuss how my clients run their businesses, what strategies they use, or any behind-the-scenes practices.
Think of it this way: if I’m working with two accountants or two coaches, each of them can trust that their systems, processes, and client details remain entirely their own.
Beyond Clients: How I Handle Connections
This standard doesn’t only apply to my paying clients. I extend the same respect to my professional connections as well. If you share something with me in a 1-2-1, you’ll never see it repeated in another conversation—or worse, showing up on a client’s social media page the next week.
Whether you’re a client or simply a fellow business owner in my network, I want you to feel comfortable sharing openly with me, knowing it won’t go further than our conversation unless we’ve both discussed that it’s okay to share. For example, if you tell me about a tool, idea, or practice you enjoy, I may say, “That’s great—I’d love to try that in my own business or recommend it to a client.” But that’s always transparent and mutually agreed upon, never assumed. Why This Matters
Protects Your Business: Your processes and systems are part of your competitive edge. They deserve to stay yours.
Builds Real Trust: You should never have to wonder if your assistant is blending your work with another client’s.
Keeps Boundaries Clear: My role is to support you, not to play “matchmaker” with your operations.
What I Do Share
What I do take away from every client relationship or connection is a better understanding of industries and challenges, so I can show up as an even stronger support system. For example, if I meet a life coach, I want to understand who their ideal clients are—so I can refer them to others in my network when opportunities arise.
That means our conversations are about you and your goals, not about anyone else.Putting It in Writing
To make sure this is crystal clear, I also include confidentiality language in my contracts. That way, you don’t just have my word—you have it in writing.
Final Thought
Hiring a VA or DBM should feel safe. You deserve to know that your information won’t be shared, recycled, or blended with someone else’s. When you work with me—whether in a client relationship or a casual connection—you can be confident that your business stays your business—period.
